The Lake Community

While most second-home lake communities include hundreds, if not thousands, of lots, Artesian Lakes features only 102 waterfront lots with hundreds of common acreage featuring woods, hiking trails, lakes, and pastures.  The only amenity located within this private, gated community is a boathouse that in addition to boating slips offers a gathering area with kitchen and restrooms—all other amenities are located in the adjacent resort and conference center, The Retreat at Artesian Lakes (formerly Chain-O-Lakes).

Artesian Lakes’ residents are surrounded by nature and removed from all the sensory pollution of the big cities, however distance-wise the community is only one hour from all convenience, culture, shopping of downtown Houston and The Woodlands.   Lake Conroe and Clear Lake are only 90 minutes away.

East Texas is a blissfully undiscovered portion of Texas—an area that invariably makes visitors gasp with wonder about its beauty and the fact that they never suspected it was so close to Houston.  Home to the Texas Big Thicket National Preserve, the area is filled with history and teeming with natural wonders.

Artesian Lakes’ property owners are successful business owners, corporate executives and professionals who are investing in their future.  Several already live here full-time, others are weekend residents, and the remaining visit on a regular basis.  In all cases, their goal is to build vacation or retirement homes that will become a legacy to their families.

Artesian Lakes’ owners have different approaches regarding their time in the community—some want to build a social life within it and some use it as a very private sanctuary from their daily lives.  Most however choose to participate in the organized events available which include two annual gatherings (Spring and December), two annual community association meetings coinciding with the dates of the social gatherings, and an annual Christmas party.

But spur of the moment social gatherings abound:  the ladies meet at the boathouse for coffee every Friday morning while the gentlemen gather for breakfast at an area restaurant.  Impromptu cocktail hours take place at various homes, as well as antiquing excursions and charity projects. Residents avail themselves of the resort’s catering services to host a variety of celebrations in their homes and some private events are becoming annual traditions.

One of the residents publishes a quarterly newsletter filled with interesting information and updates.  Another one maintains the Residents Section of the website, while others are in charge of a directory of area services and attractions, and a residents’ contact list.

The Sunshine Group makes sure all residents’ experiencing personal trials receive cards, flowers, care packages, etc.
